Core Projects

Projects

  1. Math and science teacher real world internships
  2. Current science and math teachers summer-long paid internships in business and industry to provide opportunities to update skills while modernizing the curriculum and more accurately conveying career options to students. Such programs have been shown to improve retention too.

  3. Project Lead The Way® expansion
  4. A national pre-engineering curriculum package for middle and high school students to learn science and math through applications to engineering. Here in Iowa this project is part of a statewide implementation system of the Division of Community College and Workforce Preparation within the Iowa Department of Education.

  5. Community college STEM instructor preparation and updates
  6. This project is an expressed interest of Iowa’s community college presidents. The project addresses shortages of math and science instructors at community colleges by launching a special STEM learning and teaching community college teaching certificate program based on general certificate program established in 2001 at Iowa State University.

  7. I-Teach project: recruit more quality candidates to math and science teaching
  8. Offering tuition-waived courses exploring teaching, followed by paid internships in educational settings, educational exemplars as mentors, and competitive scholarships to ramp up the number of math and science teachers produced by the Regent universities.
