IMSEP Awards First Three Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarships

 

Through a major grant from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, IMSEP has awarded Tracey Faust, Mark Bouska, and Lora Huber a $10,000 scholarship for their commitment to mathematics or science teaching.  Full Story

Principals and Teachers Learn to EMPOWERR Students and Enhance Elementary Math Instruction

 

Sixty-six Iowa elementary school educators recently learned new ways to think about fractions at The University of Iowa (UI) as part of a workshop designed to deepen teacher mathematics content knowledge, develop innovative teaching strategies and stimulate dialogue that could ultimately increase the mathematics achievement of their students.  Full Story

Forty Northeast Iowa high school students participate in Math & Science Academy

 

High school students from Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler and Grundy counties were chosen to participate in a new five-week summer program held on the University of Northern Iowa campus. The Academy focused on providing students interested in math and science with coursework and experiences to prepare them for attending college.  Full Story

IMSEP Announces Programming Additions at the Science Center of Iowa

 

Join IMSEP partners, pick up a free mug and learn about ecology while making edible landfills at the Science Center of Iowa - Des Moines - this Saturday, June 20 from 8 am to 8 pm. Sponsored by The Iowa Mathematics and Science Education Partnership (IMSEP), this event is just one of the ways professors, instructors and students from all three public universities are reaching out to the community throughout the summer to celebrate how much fun math and science can be! IMSEP Receives $900,000 NSF Grant to Fund Future Mathematics and Science Teachers

 

A major grant from the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program will help Iowa’s three Regent universities put more math and science teachers in Iowa’s classrooms over the next five years. The NSF award will allow IMSEP to provide annual scholarships of $10,000 to junior- and senior-level math and science majors, or STEM-related graduate-level students, from all three universities.  Full Story

Iowa Science and Math Teacher Educators Summit

 

Faculty members representing all of Iowa's colleges and universities will gather for a day-long conference hosted by IMSEP to be held at Grand View University on August 14. The Iowa Science and Mathematics Teacher Educators Summit, an unprecedented event for the state, will open essential dialog on Iowa’s need for exemplary teachers and how all of Iowa’s programs can work together toward that common goal.

 

A planning committee consisting of teacher-preparers from UI, ISU, UNI, private colleges, and the Iowa Department of Education, is working out details of the conference. If you wish to be included on the invitation list, please send an e-mail to IMSEP@uni.edu.

Iowa Mathematics & Science Education Partnership directs study on women and minorities in science, technology, engineering and math fields for Regent universities

 

Faculty and staff from the University of Northern Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Iowa, along with the Iowa Department of Education conducted a legislative study of the proportion of women and minority students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in universities.  Full Story

Nine Iowa science educators RAISE the bar in science research teaching

High school and college educators in the U.S. have long struggled with the problem of poor student transition from high school to college mathematics.
