IMSEP — By The Numbers
- Forty-seven (47) more mathematics and science majors have been drawn into teaching at Iowa State University (ISU) and the University of Northern Iowa (UNI).
- Four hundred forty-one (441) Iowa high school students earned Regent university credit for Project Lead The Way (PLTW).
- Over 200 students of diversity participated in nine after-school enrichment programs through the Corridor STEM Initiative.
- Nineteen (19) schools and 1,575 students partnered with businesses through Iowa Mathematics and Science Education Partnership (IMSEP) supported activities.
- Nearly $1.2 million in leveraged funds from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other sources augmented the state’s investment in IMSEP.
- Twenty-one (21) nature centers inspired 12,953 youth through STEM programs supported by IMSEP.
- Over 2,000 students, 500 pre-service teachers and 400 teachers of mathematics and science participated in outreach programming through IMSEP grants to faculty.
- The number of undergraduates majoring in representative STEM fields of physics (+29), biology (+34), nursing (+96) and engineering (+130) at Iowa’s public universities has increased over the last year.
- Over 100 public university faculty members worked with community school teachers and students through IMSEP-funded workshops and educational programs.
- More than 1,300 teachers of mathematics and science improved their teaching through IMSEP-funded outreach.
- Twenty-two after-school and summer camp mathematics and science enrichment programs were conducted for over 10,000 youth across Iowa.
- Teachers and students from 209 Iowa communities and 86 counties participated in IMSEP.
- "When are we ever gonna need this?" is now the favorite student question of mathematics and science teachers who participated in the Real World Externships for Teachers of Mathematics and Science program. Industry hosts included Pella Corporation, Clipper Windpower, Hagie Manufacturing, Allen Memorial Hospital, Struxture Architects, Kemin Industries, plus the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and two county conservation districts - Polk County Conservation and Black Hawk County Conservation.
