Institute

The Iowa Mathematics and Science Education Institute, the coordination center for the Iowa Mathematics and Science Education Partnership (IMSEP), expands the Partnership's reach and impact by supporting and expanding inventoried outreach and professional development activities related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

The Institute oversees all programming, as well as the production of reports, studies and the organization of summits, meetings and statewide events in support of IMSEP's goals to:

  1. prepare more high quality mathematics and science teachers for Iowa's schools,

  2. improve mathematics and science performance of Iowa's K-12 students, and
  3. promote statewide collaboration and cooperation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

The Institute is also charged with:

  • pursuit of external funding
  • development of new degrees (e.g. elementary specialist)
  • creative licensure solutions
  • new teacher mentorship and support
  • curriculum development and testing
  • studies and reports
  • summits, symposia, conferences
  • public-private partnerships
  • STEM teacher preparation
  • issues analysis and consultation
